CHRISTMAS PARTY!

12.17.2014

Sweater: F21, Pants: Target, Jacket: Old Navy, Boots: Sears, Scarf: Gift I think? It's old.

Adelaide had her very first Christmas party this morning! In honor of it, we decided to put on some festive duds (as if she hasn't worn festive Christmas duds 5 out of 7 days of the week ever since Thanksgiving was over) and had a great time!

The Christmas fun sent me on a search for a Christmas questionnaire. You know, like the ones that we used to answer constantly, and then forward to at least 6 people, otherwise you would have "bad luck for 10 years"... remember those? Are my nearly 30 years showing by referring to this? Anyway, I used to love reading and filling those in, no matter how many almost identical ones I had already read and answered. So, here's what I found...

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?  Hot chocolate with as many marshmallows as will fit.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Just sit them around the tree.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Jordan and I had colored lights on our very first Christmas tree, because that's what he wanted... we switched to clear every year since then, but I added one strand of colored this year for Adelaide. Having her around made me want to veer away from the red & silver motif that I have so steadfastly hung on to for the past decade, in favor of a more fun color palette this year... pink wrapping paper? Yes!
4. Do you hang mistletoe? Nah.
5. When do you hang your decorations up? Day after Thanksgiving, no exceptions!
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Excluding dessert?!?! Why would dessert ever be excluded from anything?? Forget that. My favorite holiday dish... sugar cookies with frosting I supposed. Mostly because that's the only thing I can think of that I always make during Christmas, and pretty much only make during Christmas.
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? When I got Mall Madness. My parents had me convinced that they had tried soooo hard, but just couldn't manage to get it- sold out everywhere. And do you know what was waiting for me on Christmas morning? Mall Madness. And I loooooved it! Surprise, surprise. I guess this shopping & clothes thing started waaay back.
8. What is on your Christmas Wish list? I guess a bike, maybe some tennis shoes... I mean, there's things I would like to have, but I'm really not dying for anything. I'm far more excited to give the gifts I found for everyone else this year.
9. Do you open a gifts on Christmas Eve? Growing up we always got to open a gift from my Grandma and Aunt and one from under the tree. Now, we do Christmas Eve with my family, so we exchange gifts with them. I've always kind of liked Christmas Eve more than Christmas day... the anticipation is at it's absolute height, you can just feel it all day long. Christmas day always ends up feeling kinda depressing toward the end, because it's all over. Sad :(
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? With the hodgepodge of ornaments we've collected over the past 10 years... My favorites are the homemade ones we made on our first Christmas, and the ones we've been collecting from the places we've traveled (one from each trip). I'm really excited to start traveling with Adelaide, so she can start her own collection!
11. Snow? Love it or dread it? Loooooooove it. But I'm a Texan, so I'm lucky to see it a couple of times each year, so what's not to love?
12. Real tree or fake tree? I've never known anything other than fake. Those real ones can get expensive! I can't imagine my cheap self shelling out for that year after year.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Other than Mall Madness, I'd have to say my engagement ring, on Christmas morning 7 years ago. Again, I was beyond surprised, as Jordan had spend the previous 3 1/2 years convincing me that he wasn't really into the idea of marriage. Clearly I have a long history of having the wool pulled over my eyes. I guess my naivete works in other people's favor quite well!
14. What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you? Giving and focusing on and being with the ones you love. I love the goodwill that you see and feel everywhere during the holiday season. This time of year just makes my heart feel happy and full.
15. What is your favorite Holiday dessert? See #6
16. What is your favorite tradition? Christmas Eve with my family (see #9). I think it's the most long-standing Christmas tradition we have. This year my sister will be with other family in Arizona, so I'm really looking forward to having our get together this weekend, and still doing something with my parents on Christmas Eve. I sure ain't gonna turn my nose up at two celebrations in place of the usual one!
17. What tops your tree? A star
18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving? See #8
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Baby Please Come Home, by Hanson! I remember my mom and sister getting me their "Snowed In" CD one year... they said it was going to be a Christmas present, which made me kinda bummed, because I wanted to listen to it all month, not just on Christmas day (I'm a stickler about Christmas being over after Christmas day). And again, they surprised me by giving it to me in on our way out of Wal-Mart that day, so I could listen to it all month. It's still in the glove box of my car, and it skips on this song.  I guess from all the re-winding of the "baby, baaaaaby" at the end. Still love it!
20. Candy canes, yuck or yum? Yuuum. But it has to be the right brand.
21. Favorite Christmas Movie? The Santa Clause
22. What do you leave for Santa? Nothing for over a decade. We'll probably start next year though ;)
23. Do you have a Christmas morning tradition? Jordan and I always wake up really early, (like, even earlier than usual)... like 5 something, he stokes the fire if we had one the previous night (which we usually do), while I turn on the music and make our coffee. Then we would open our gifts together, but if this year is anything like last year, we'll probably twiddle our thumbs staring down the baby monitor ready to pounce on Adelaide the second she makes even the slightest move! We won't be those parents (ahem... mom & dad), who tell their kids to go back to bed, it's too early ;)
24. Do you prefer to shop on-line or at the mall? I prefer shopping at the store, because it's more fun with the instant gratification of taking it home and wrapping it right up. But, I do more shopping on-line, because Amazon Prime just makes it too affordable and easy to do it any other way so much of the time.
25. Christmas letter or Christmas card? Picture card. We just started doing them last year, and I am so looking forward to being able to look back at all of our cards from each year!

Now if you love these as much as me, copy and paste your own in the comments. I'd love to read it!
